The hilarious pictures show little owls diving and flapping their outstretched wings with human-like glares.
Russell Savory, 60, from Hertfordshire, photographed young and adult owls in Stow Maries Aerodrome in Essex.
The curious birds inhabit the Great War Aerodrome that was used from 1916 to 1919 to defend against German bomber attacks.
But one hundred years later a different animal is taking flight.
The little owl chicks hatched in the summer and since then have been learning the lay of the land.
They stomp along branches, dive-bomb off fences and even give each other a peck on the cheek.
The winged creatures are even fans of ‘selfies’ after Russell left out a camera and a pressure pad to allow the wild animals to take their own picture.
Russell, the site manager for the Stow Maries Aerodrome, said: “I love the little owls. They display personality.
“Sometimes they look cheeky and other times the look like grumpy old men.
“They are inquisitive creatures and they like to explore.
“I think they are fun to watch and fun to capture on camera.”
