Dancing King: Adventurer Travels The Globe Performing ‘Running Man’ Dance

Fun-loving Aussie Rob Vickery has recorded his own version of the dance outside everywhere from the Taj Mahal to Buckingham Palace.

Following the death of his beloved Grandma back in 2012, Rob, a former medical recruiter from Banora Point in New South Wales, handed in his resignation and left his home in Australia to travel the globe.

He said: “A normal job and a normal life didn't tick all the boxes for me.

"My life was actually fine. I had a great job with great people. I lived in a little flat near the beach. I had two chickens as pets.

“But the driving force behind quitting my job was my grandmother dying. She raised me, she was like a mother to me. I often say that one life ended and another life began.

“I sold just about everything. Two weeks after my Nana died I handed in my resignation, one month after that I left my job and one month after that I left Australia. 

"In the last month I sold my car and most of my possessions. I just met a girl during this time and she came with me to China but it didn't work out."

Rob decided to start showcasing his special running man talent on camera in Singapore in February this year. 

He said: “I was just walking along the boardwalk with my friends and I got the inspiration to say 'hey listen, film me doing the running man in front of Marina Bay Sands’."

The response was so positive that he has taken it to 13 other countries, with India, Nepal, Athens, Amsterdam and Berlin already ticked off the list.

And while the running man videos began with Rob performing the dance on his own, in recent times he is trying his best to get others involved and push the positive message to a larger audience.

“I tell people who stand and watch me about my story, to remind them to have fun and not to take life so seriously,” he said.

“After that, it’s pretty easy to get people involved.”

He has also set his sights on getting some celebrities to join him, with dream co-dancers including Mark Zuckerberg, Madonna, Oprah, Roger Federer and Richard Branson.

However, the dance has not always gone down well everywhere - Rob experienced a close call with the police in Greece when he tried to film his dance in front of the Parthenon in Athens.

He added: “I did it up there, got some great footage and I heard a whistle blowing in the background.

“A lady came over and basically told me that I had to delete it and if I didn’t, it would go further and I could get arrested.”

Rob’s friends and family usually remain supportive towards his new adventure, but can’t help wondering when he will return home to Australia.
He said: “A common question they often ask is when are you coming home?

"Which I answer, well I am home. It feels like the world is my home now.

“The running man makes people happy, it makes people smile when they see me doing it.”
