Pasta Portraits: Artist replaces his pencils for spaghetti and ketchup

His spaghetti faces have gone viral, giving Andre a large following and bright future

Artist and student André Manguba, 17, traded in his pencils for food to create these life-like edible portraits.

The young Filipino artist is well known for his detailed celebrity drawings on Instagram, which have earned him more than 82,000 followers.

Andre created a pasta portrait of Filipino actress, Liza Soberano, and managed to meet the star

He said: “I’ve been drawing since I was four years old. The moment I was handed a crayon and paper for the first time, I never stopped drawing from then on.

“Food art is very new to me since I originally use colored pencils and graphite as my main media in drawing. I'll definitely continue doing pasta portraits because they're fun to make and it's such a unique idea.”

Each food artwork takes André three to four hours to complete and the artist finds the inspiration for his works through social media, surfing the Internet and through his friends and family.

He said: “There are times when I draw people who are special to me just like when I drew my mom to congratulate her for being Mrs World Philippines 2014.

"I also sketch some of my favorite famous personalities and singers.”

Andre is well known for his celebrity portraits, and has 83,000 followers on his Instagram page

This budding artist’s career has just begun, yet he has already been featured on news channels, and met some of the stars that have appeared in his pasta works.

He said: “After posting my food art online, people started sharing them and got viral.

“Since I currently draw portraits, I plan to elevate this in the future and add more conceptuality to it.

"Just like my food art, wherein I used pasta and ketchup to draw faces, I’ve somehow stepped out of the box and challenged myself with something new.”
