CEO of Aufschnitt Textile Butchers came up with the quirky idea to sell meat inspired cushions

At first glimpse, Aufschnitt Textile Butchers on Boxhagener Street, Berlin, looks like a traditional butchers.

But it is actually a quirky shop that'll guarantee to satisfy your homeware appetite, selling cushions that look like sausages, bacon and cold cuts of meat.

The variety of meat inspired soft furnishings fill the fake butcher counter and hang from the ceiling - just like a real-life butchers.

CEO and owner of Aufschnitt, Silvia Wald, originally studied Clothing Technology in Berlin, before beginning a studio for pattern construction and production.

The name Aufschnitt Berlin was first coined as a cheeky play on words using the German word ‘schnitt’ meaning ‘pattern’ and the butchery expression “aufschnitt,” which describes a particular genre of sliced meats or cold cuts.

Germany is known for their love of sausages, and Silvia wanted to use this in a humorous way in her textiles.

She said: "Aufschnitt Berlin is one of the most unusual label for design of lifestyle products and home accessorie

“I’m a vegetarian and I thought it would be super funny to make my clients a little sausage brooch, and it was so hilarious I just had to make the whole collection.

“Our main collection imitates sausages and meat products. We make them by using traditional sewing techniques with a special detail."

The company also make bread products

Using cotton, lycra, synthetic leather and natural dyes, the five ‘textile butchers’ at Aufschnitt create a variety of sausages, meat cuts and organs to sell.

She said: "Sometimes when I’m in the shop I see a customer crossing the street thinking: 'I’m going to get a good piece of meat’ and then they come in and say: ‘Everything’s made from textiles!' and they start to laugh.

The vegetarian butchers also creates commissioned pieces such as a tongue backpack and even has a range of fruit, vegetables and bread.
