Romanian beauty: Stunning landscape images taken with cheap camera

Alex Robciuc, 30, from Maramures County, Romania, started photographing the countryside around his home town in 2010 to showcase what he believes to be one of the last places in Europe that has managed to preserve its traditions.

Robciuc said: “Most of my pictures were taken in Maramures County, which has managed to preserve its nature and traditions as they were hundreds of years ago.”

“My previous job as a land engineer, and my current job as a photo editor, have given me the opportunity to find interesting and beautiful places to capture such as hidden areas, unique lands and people.”

He added: “Autumn is a very special time for landscape photographers, with the pallets of colours and the perfect light strength.”

The self-taught photographer’s autumn images are particularly picturesque as they show the breathtaking foggy mornings around the Romanian Carpathian Mountains.

But perhaps the most remarkable thing about Robciuc’s images is that they were taken using his £200 camera.

He said: “I didn’t have access to a lens that cost thousands of dollars, so I had to improvise with different equipments.

“I used some filters, a tripod for long exposure and some editing techniques.”

For Alex, the goal was to show viewers the parts of nature that have been unchanged by man and to inspire others to pick up their camera, no matter how inexpensive.

He explained: “I wanted to try and capture the beauty of my surroundings and to capture a view that is similar to what my ancestors saw a couple of a hundred years back on a chilly and foggy morning.”

After his images went viral, Alex was contacted by many aspiring photographers around the world asking what equipment was necessary to create such beautiful landscape photos.

He said: “A photographer does not need expensive equipment to take great pictures, they just need to have patience, passion and to find the perfect moment."
