Andrey Nekrasov captures the amazing expressions of infants underwater

Diving certified photographer Andrey Nekrasov, 44, tagged along to a water baby class in Odessa, Ukraine to photograph the infants.

The infants' excited faces light up at the sensation of being underwater and emulate the iconic Nirvana album cover.

Interestingly, young babies are rarely afraid of water and Andrey wanted to capture the sheer awe of the infants as they were dunked underwater.

Photographer Andrey Nekrasov was invited to photograph the babies by their mothers at a water baby class

He said: “I was invited along by the mothers to photograph their children and I had to do it because I love taking photos of children.

“In this period of life, they are not afraid of water at all and behave completely naturally underwater, which creates such organic portraits.”

Nekrasov has always photographing children because of their unguarded expressions

However, the photoshoot did not come without its challenges, especially as the baby pool was fairly shallow, which made it difficult for Andrey to find the right angle.

The babies - ranging in age from two and half months to six months - dived underwater for short five to ten second periods to capture each shot and the, occasionally nervous parents, hovered nearby to keep them afloat.

Andrey loves to capture the pure, natural emotions of young children because their young minds allow them pose naturally.

All the babies did their best to outshine the iconic Nirvana album cover

The Russian-born photographer said: “I like childish, natural emotions. They turn out beautifully on camera.

“Children do not pose and do not let outside influences affect their expressions - they are what they are.”
