Disunited: A painter and decorator paints over one of the stars on an EU flag billboard

These political miniature scenes were created by Glaswegian Artist, David Gilliver in July 2016 to reflect the crucial 'Brexit' vote.

The pictures depict a decorator painting over one of the stars of the EU flag, whilst a group prepare to dive into the unknown.

David said: “I enjoy finding new figures frozen in a particular pose as I almost feel like I have to help them find a task to complete or be involved in, somehow helping them fulfill their purpose.”

David has an extensive variety of work with his little people, with no two scenes ever being the same, the tiny team is always up to something new.

Brexit: Diving into the unknown

His new recent body of work take a more serious slant compared to previous pieces as they are reflecting on recent political events - which divided the UK.

The artist said: “I really wanted to let the little people have their say about what has been going on in British politics. The little people have spoken.”

The time taken to construct each of David’s scenes varies depending on the complexity. Some take as little as 20 – 30 minutes to prepare, whilst others take a few hours to achieve the perfect positioning.

Once the little people are set up, he photographs them from various angles with a macro lens before the editing process begins.

Going...going...GOVE

Despite the humour in his photographs, the works usually hint at a deep, hidden meaning.

He said: “Sometimes a particular thought or feeling will help inspire a particular diorama and I will use the photograph to help convey a message.

“I think the messages conveyed by this recent body of work are pretty obvious – more of a commentary.”

"What have we done? I guess we will find out in the years that lie ahead"

David suggests that this new selection is only the beginning of his more topical works, with more to come in the future.

He said: “I have been writing down new ideas for the past couple of weeks. I have a feeling this series is not finished yet.”
