Un-BEAR-ably Cute: Playful Cubs Wrestle In The Grass

The young animals were spotted wrestling in Lake Clark, Alaska, by amateur photographer Greg Morgan.

The 44-year-old, from Walthamstow in the northeast of the UK, travelled all the way to the US state to photograph the creatures, and said: “Seeing the two brown bear cubs was a brilliant feeling.

“The bears are so interesting and they are also really cute that’s for sure.

“A lot of the time they aren’t doing a lot so when you get action like that it is a great feeling.”

Alaska has the highest number of brown bears in the US and is home to roughly 98% of the country’s entire population of the species.

Intrepid Greg, who works as a civil servant, took the photos on June 19 after a long search for the animals.

He was also lucky enough to see the same two cubs wrestling on another trip three days later.

He said: "It was a very intensive 16 hours with the odd break here and there, but it was without a doubt worth it when I sighted them.”

There are roughly 30,000 brown bears living in Alaska, making them the state's top predator. 

Depending on availability of food, their population can be as dense as one per square mile.
