Each piece can take up to 12 hours to cut using a craft knife and magnifying glass

Salavat Fidai draws inspiration from popular culture, and has recreated the likes of Bart Simpson, Yoda, and Disney robot Wall-E.

The key to success: Each sculpture is just a few centimetres big

The offbeat Russian has also painted Van Gogh’s iconic Starry Night onto a PUMPKIN SEED.

The size of the small sculptures can be astonishing to behold

The 42-year-old family man, who is married and has two children, said: “When I work with oil on canvas it’s more emotional and expressive.

Speechless: The mute robot Wall-E from the Disney film is one of his many inspirations

“If I paint acrylic on a seed it’s hard work and detail-orientated.

Salavat also creates interesting and unique characters in his carvings
Use the force: He used a small carving knife to recreate Yoda, from Star Wars

“When I carve sculptures from pencils, it’s more meditative and relaxing.”

All angles: The artist also creates art with paint

Salvat is the son of two art teachers but has had no formal training himself.

Each detail is practically invisible to the naked eye because of its size

He became a full-time artist recently after spending 20 years as an office manager.

Skull-pture: The clever carvings are of a number of subjects
The Russian artist said the carvings were a meditative pastime

The sculptor created the pencil carvings in January, and continued: “One pencil I cut from 6 to 12 hours.

“Some sophisticated models take two days.

“To cut a pencil I use a craft knife and magnifying glass.”
