Photographer Johnny Joo took these eerie pictures while exploring America's East Coast and was able to glimpse into the dark history of these rotting institutions.
The 24-year-old explained that Brownsville Hospital in Pennsylvania, which was converted into a nursing home in the 1960s, was closed in 1985 due to serious violations of medical practice.
But Joo admits that the building is still one of the most interesting places he has ever snapped.
He said: “Each hospital in the set has a varying history from insane asylum to centre of sickness and healing.
“My favourite would have to be Brownsville. I remember photographing it in the freezing cold months of winter, the floors were covered in ice and I could barely feel my hands.
“The most interesting room would have to be the community room, simply for the fact that so many beds remained placed in such a way for so many years.”
Ohio native Joo also warned that anyone attempting to explore these unsanitary buildings should take the proper precautions.
He said: “Never adventure into places like these without proper masks and gloves.
“There could be quite a lot of disease and what not laying around, which could make you extremely sick. You can't walk into places like this expecting it to just be okay and clean.”
