All types of vehicles are dumped in this junkyard in Bangkok

Cars, buses, motorbikes and trucks are dumped in the junkyard by local authorities when they are no longer needed for evidence or when they have been in serious accidents that have resulted in fatalities.

Part-time photographer, Dax Ward, visited the creepy grounds in December 2016 located in the Bang Khen District of northern Bangkok.

The only rule is that they are all involved with criminal activity in the past

Dax, 36, said: “All vehicles in the junkyard are no longer needed as evidence in major accident cases.

“If they are not claimed by family or former owners, they end up here.

Locals think the site is haunted because of the death that is associated with the vehicles

“They often move some of the vehicles out, but the oldest ones still remain – the ones embedded in the overgrowth.”

After researching haunted sites in the local area online, Dax found the junkyard and wanted to see if it still existed.

Part-time photographer Dax Ward visited the yard on December 11th

He said: “We started in the morning and drove to several of the places we found online.

“We spoke with locals in every spot, but found that they had all been torn down or replaced with new structures.

Dax found the eerie destination online and could not resist travelling to see if it still existed

“Me and my girlfriend were exhausted but I didn’t want to leave without any images – and so we tried one last spot, which was luckily the junkyard.

“We found some real luxury cars like a Mercedes Benz and a Porsche!”

The 36-year-old has said that locals tend to stay well away from the junkyard

Dax has been photographing eerie and derelict sites for the past year and fortunately the junkyard followed the trend of his work.

“I don’t think many people visit this site, be tourists or anyone else,” Dax added.

The vehicles have been abandoned for a number of years

“People may not want to acquire some materials they believe to have spirits of those who perished in accidents.

“I stayed there for about 45 minutes and I never saw the owners or anyone else.

The site is still used for battered vehicles today and Dax spotted a Mercedes Benz in the rubble

“I was alone the entire time and it was scary to imagine the violent forces required to do such damage to these vehicles.”

Whilst Dax feels as though the site needs to be documented, he realises how it cannot be seen as beautiful with such a lingering sense of tragedy.

With all the pain and suffering that surrounds the junkyard, Dax found the experience uncomfortable

He said: “With all the pain and suffering experienced by the people who took these vehicles on their final drive, it is hard to call the site ‘beautiful’.

“I tried to approach my shooting of the site with some vigor whilst keeping in mind that this twisted metal, broken glass and stretched plastic also represents great tragedy.”
