Preppy Pooch: Meet Toby the adorable Maltese whose hipster style is taking the internet by storm

With his preppy style, this pup has gained himself 100,000 followers on Instagram ever since his owner, Joyce Chen, set up the account three years ago.

“I first started dressing Toby up around three years ago. We were sitting on the patio at Starbucks when I put my sunglasses on him for fun. He surprised me by sitting still with the sunglasses on. I quickly snapped a photo with my phone and posted it online.”

Based in Vancouver, Canada, Chen, bought the Toby when he was only three months old.

She said: “I had a Maltese when I was a child and I've always loved this breed. I fell in love with Toby the moment I saw him. He was this little ball of fluff with these large expressive eyes. I had never seen a Maltese with such beautiful eyes!”

The collection of photos show a day in the life of Toby, from playing in the park to chilling on the sofa, wearing his signature thick-rimmed glasses, perfectly accessorised bow ties and plaid shirts.

Joyce said: “I try to stick with the hipster theme. Thick-rimmed glasses, bow ties, plaid shirts and hats are is signature look.

“Toby actually loves our photo shoots because there's always lots of treats involved. It only takes me a few minutes to get a photo of Toby and then the clothes come off and it's treat time.”

It seems his quirky style and Mohican haircut shaves years of the hipster hound and it’s no wonder his followers are surprised when they find out he’s 10 years old.

Chen said: “People are always commenting on Toby's eyes. They say his eyes look very human like. They're also quite surprised how young Toby looks.

“Toby may be 10 years old but he acts more like he's three. He's full of energy and always up for a new adventure.”
