Jakarta's Expanding Skyline From High-Rise Buildings

AN increase in the construction of skyscrapers is causing concern over land subsidence in Jakarta

Photographer Ardiles Rante captured the images in the district of Kemayoran to show the ever expanding skyscrapers

The capital and most populous city of Indonesia has a population of over 10 million people and with the growing inhabitants, the city has seen a huge increase in high-rise buildings - causing concern for the welfare of Jakarta's environment.

He also wanted to capture the contrast between land house and new build apartments

Photographer Ardiles Rante captured the images in the district of Kemayoran in April 2017 to show the ever expanding landscape of skyscrapers.

Ardiles, 37, said: "In the images, you can see how fragile the city is from over-developed buildings or skyscraper development due to the land subsidence.

"The idea was to document the landscape of the business district located in Central Jakarta from North Jakarta.

Ardiles gained access through his cousin, working as a team building consultant for one of the developing skyscrapers

"I also wanted to capture the consequences that these buildings might have on Jakarta, such as ecological disasters."

He said: "The most interesting thing about taking the photos was the ability to see the lines of the buildings from the business district and also to be able to see the North Coast of Jakarta.

“And, of course, the contrast between land houses and fancy new-build apartments.”
