Brave beak: the Kingfisher swoops down for the dragonfly larvae

The female's beautiful plumage was captured on camera by photographer Nicolas Reusens in Alicante, southern Spain.

He said: "I have two photographer friends who live in Alicante and they have been feeding this female kingfisher for over two years now.

"They invited me to go to there property and get some awesome pics of her feeding and I accepted. The place is close to a river and attached to it there is a pond.

"They captured some fish and put it there so the kingfisher just has to dive from a branch and take the fresh sashimi bites.

"Really close to the river corner there was a 'No Fishing' sign and after the meals the bird posed there for a while every morning before leaving the place."

To avoid scaring the bird away, the photographer placed his equipment inside a hide and triggered the camera and flashes using a remote control.
