Macro photographer Yudy Sauw photographed the mating habits of tiny weevils in his garden in Tangerang, Indonesia.
The male insect is seen approaching the female bug on a green leaf.
It then mounts the female weevil that remains passive and calm during the process.
The 34-year-old said: “I saw the male approach the female and it started to mate immediately.
“When the males reach ejaculation it looks like a strong convulsive seizure over the female.
“They were in that position for about ten minutes.
“They then played around and did it again a couple more times and then they finally broke apart.”
Yudy uses a technique called focus stacking to take the detailed shots.
This involves digitally combining images taken at different focal points to make an accurate image.
The incredible detail allows the human eye to see the delicate nature of the weevil’s wing and patterned shell.
