Georgina recreates by Hokusai's well-known masterpiece 'The Great Wave off Kanagawa'

Many of us are still struggling to master the art of winged eyeliner, but professional make-up artist Georgina Ryland takes make-up to a whole new level as she paints famous masterpieces such as Van Gogh’s Starry Night and Hokusai's The Great Wave Off Kanazawa on her eyes.

In another creation, the artist uses yellow, orange and red eyeshadows to create detailed painted junk food

The 21-year-old from Brisbane Australia started the 'Makeup For Ants' series as a personal challenge.

Georgina said: “Each image is a tiny painting on my eyelid. The story behind the images does vary per look, but it's generally a "can I do this?" challenge, and the successful ones are published.

Using eyeshadow and face paint the talented artist recreates Van Gogh's 'Starry Night'

"I am highly interested in traditional artwork and did three based on some of my favourite pieces: The Great Wave Off Kanagawa, Starry Night and Bridge Over A Pond Of Lilies. I also recently did a group of nine elemental looks: three ‘Skies', three ‘Waters' and three ‘Earth.”"

In one of her works, Georgina creating a winged eyeliner look by painting a line of tiny cats onto her lash line.

She said: “I can't remember exactly how it came about, but I decided it would be funny to make a bit of a joke about 'cat eyeliner.' I gave it my best shot and uploaded it on Instagram later that day. It was my first image to go remotely viral and I received a lot of love for it.”

Georgina said: "I use craft brushes for the tiny eye make-ups, with my favourite being size 0 and 00 detailing brushes"

In another creation, the artist uses yellow, orange and red eyeshadows to create detailed painted junk food—including fries, a burger, pizza and a hot dog— on the upper part of her eye.

Georgina brainstorms ideas and then creates each piece using detailed craft brushes along with eyeshadows and face paint to create the amazing artwork.

Ryland often finds inspiration from movies and this particular piece of artwork was inspired by upcoming Pixar film Finding Dory

She explained: “For my tiny eye paints, I used eyeshadows, face and body paints, liquid lipsticks, eyeliner, glitter - anything that is safe to be put on the eyes will be used! I have taken especially to eye-safe liquid lipsticks as they sit nicely on the eyelid.

“I don't find difficulty finding things like brushes. I use craft brushes for the tiny eye make-ups, with my favourite being size 0 and 00 detailing brushes. I use regular make-up brushes as well.”

The incredibly detailed work takes Ryland just short of an hour to complete

In her teenage years, Georgina avoided wearing make-up, but in 2012 she joined a circus troupe, which required her to. Surprising herself with how much she enjoyed using it, she then went on to gain a diploma in cinemagraphic makeup.

Georgina takes the term 'cat eye' incredibly literally by creating a winged eyeliner look by drawing small cats onto her lash line

She said: “I bought some cheap, colourful eyeshadow palettes and played around with them. I wasn't particularly good with the make-up side, so I played with creating designs on my face and eventually bought a face painting kit.

Georgina has also mastered her makeup art on her lips and body

“I've seen many artists such as Tal Peleg and Sandra Holmbom and wanted to give the tiny detailing a go myself. However, I really don't like copying other make-up work, so I try to create and workshop my ideas without looking directly at their work."

The incredibly detailed work takes Georgia just short of an hour to complete with her gaining inspiration from various angles including her favourite artwork, nature and TV shows.
