The lizard's huge tongue is fired at its target

The colourful lizard feasted on the winged insect as it was perched on a stick, in Batam Island, Indonesia.

Photographer Ais Setiawan, who snapped the images, said: "I was playing with my panther chameleon. Suddenly a dragonfly came over the trees adjacent to it.

Then suddenly the panther chameleon issued its long tongue to eat the dragonfly."

The successful predator gobbles up its catch

The 21-year-old, who works as a technician, keeps the lizard as a pet at his home in Batam.

He captured the incredible images in his back garden on February 12, when his sticky-tongued chameleon managed to catch two dragonflies.

The lizard shows it is a master of balance

Ais continued: "I was surprised to see the long tongue of the panther chameleon, I got pictures and I was thrilled."

There are roughly 180 species of chameleon, with many of them recognised for their ability to change colour to blend in with their surroundings.
