The inquisitive bear had been drawn to the lodge by the smell of food – and looked as if he was inviting himself to dinner.
The unusual pictures were captured in Manitoba, Canada, by Terry Allen, a 72-year-old retired professor.
The situation was made even more dangerous as another curious animal joined the bear to prowl around the Seal River Lodge.
But luckily the nosy bears were content to play in the snow and peer through windows rather than cause trouble.
Terry said: “As we were walking back to the lodge after a photo sessions with the bears we saw one near the lodge and watched while it approached the front door, much to the amusement of the staff inside the lodge.
“The bears are in a state of waking hibernation and are relatively non aggressive.”
The drowsy beasts prowled around the lodge for fifteen minutes before retreating.
Terry added: “It was amazing to see the bears, and I felt so privileged to be out in the open with them and to see them so close and not from protected confines.
"It made me aware of how important it is to protect these magnificent animals whose existence is endangered from rapid declines in the levels of Arctic ice, resulting from climate change.”
