Giant mounds of ice jut into the orange skyline as the sun sets on the icefjord

The sky changes from blue to pink to orange against the staggering ice formations of the Arctic.

Rob Lott, 49, recorded the amazing sight at Ilulissat Icefjord and Disko Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The immense Kangia glacier and the icebergs it gives birth to dominate the landscape.

The glacier thrusts 20 million tons of ice into Disko Bay every 24 hours - it is thought that 10% of the world’s icebergs are created from this ice field, including the one that sunk the Titanic.

Rob, from Wiltshire, captured the images on an evening boat cruise on the west coast of Greenland as the sun was setting.

The marine biologist, who works for a conservation organisation, saw the scene on a nine-day trip to the region.

Rob said: “It was eerie cruising in the bay as you can hear the crackle and pop as the boat pushes it way through the ice.
