The captivating shot was taken near the historic village of Ushaiger, 125 miles north of the Saudi capital Riyadh.
Ushaiger is a major stopping point for pilgrims from Iraq and Kuwait travelling to Mecca.
The town's literal meaning is 'little blonde' even though the surrounding mountains are red. This is because the words blonde and red were interchangeable in the old days.
Financial student Mohammed Abahussin, 23, took the image during a break from university studies.
He said: "I was with my friend. We went into the desert about 7km out from the road and started taking some shots.
"I saw the sun disappear between the clouds and I was positioned further back from my friend and I liked the composition.
"Something was missing so I took a few different shots and had him walking and then eventually I got him to sit and took this final shot.
"When I saw this picture on my camera screen I knew the picture would be amazing because all the elements were great.
"There is a beautiful sunset, the amazing desert, the human element and the composition of the frame.
"I think the human element makes the photo. It is different from the other landscape images.
"I'm happy with the results. It shows how you can take advantage of all the element around you."
