The stunning photos, shot over eight days in August 2014, show the magnificent creatures at play in the Kingdom of Tonya.
The London-born photographer Karim Iliya, 25, swam with the bus-sized beasts in the dark water to capture rare moments in the whales’ daily life.
One stunning sighting was watching a one-week-old baby humpback staying close to its mother as it skims the surface of the water.
And in another incredible shot, two humpback whales appear to play with a pod of dolphins – despite their difference in size.
Karim, who is based in Maui, Hawaii, said: “Every interaction with humpback whales is different.
"Humpback whales are highly intelligent creatures with a diverse range of personalities and moods that fluctuate over time, much like humans.
“Though they are the size of a buses they are very gentle and kind, controlled in their movements. To me, they are one of the most beautiful graceful creatures.
“Swimming with humpbacks was the most incredible experience I’ve ever had.
“When I finally got into the water with the humpbacks, I was filled with emotions that I did not know how to express.
"Looking into a humpback whale’s beautiful eye, I felt a strong connection and realised how unique and important these creatures are.”
